Crystal’s art responds to her environment and is a reflection that stems from her upbringing. Having spent her childhood in the countryside of Taiwan, she has a strong love and relationship with nature. Being closely surrounded by the mountains and skies, this served as a contrast and big impact after moving to Hong Kong. Although she is now used to the hectic fast-paced lifestyle and an environment comparatively separated from nature, a deep longing still exists and she hopes to bring elements of nature and beauty back to people living in the city through her art. Her art is also a reflection on how the urban environment and urban planning of the city separates people from nature creating a self-made dystopic artificial environment which we live in. Elements of flowers and water are important subjects in her work as it is a metaphor of life where she finds a lot of peace and strength. Like people, each flower is unique and beautiful in their own way; and although their lifespan may be short, they can still bloom wonderfully and magnificently. Through her artworks, she hopes to re-examine, re-establish, and re-build our connection and relationship with nature.
